Chapter 8

Lena relaxed against the heated glass of the shower and let the slightly off-tune singing lull her into a sense of calm she rarely ever let herself feel. The steam from the shower was warm against her natural chill and her heart was thumping pain-free in her chest. The shower shut off and the frosted glass door opened as a tan arm stuck out.

“Mind passing a towel?”

Lena reached across from her to grab the red towel off the toilet seat and resumed her position on the cool tiled floor against the glass of the shower. Mercer took the towel and after a moment stepped out and smirked down at her girlfriend. “I know we can’t stray too far from one another but you’re kind of strange, you know that?”

Lena studied Mercer’s open expression before nodding slowly. “I don’t mind being seen as strange.”

With a shrug, Mercer reached out her hand and Lena allowed her to pull her to her feet. Together they walked back into Mercer’s bedroom where the hunter made a spinning motion with her finger and Lena turned around to give her girlfriend some privacy. Honestly, she wasn’t sure why Mercer made her turn around. She had already seen her in her underwear before. But at the same time, she was also glad for it because she wasn’t sure what she would do if she had her naked in front of her again.

Lena had been preoccupied most of the day but now that she was in her mate’s bedroom getting ready for bed she couldn’t help the building anticipation. Anticipation for what she only had a vague idea of but there was an erratic energy filling her veins once the moon had come out and she wasn’t entirely sure it was all coming from her.

“Okay! You can turn back around.”

Lena let her eyes rove over the long t-shirt with some indie band logo that reached about mid-thigh before coming up to settle on the throbbing pulse point at the base of Mercer’s neck. The mark she had made there had been sealed with her saliva shortly after she had finished drinking from her. Her fangs suddenly dropped without her permission and she grits her teeth to keep Mercer from noticing.

“Hungry?”

Lena jerked her gaze up to meet amused gunmetal gray eyes. Lena shook her head refusing to speak in case she revealed her fangs. Mercer stepped closer to her until Lena could practically feel her body heat and leaned in and whispered, “Your eyes are glowing.”

Lena stepped back and averted her gaze. “I’m sorry,” she whispered.

Warm fingers gripped her chin drawing her gaze back to the same eyes that now held a tenderness along with amusement, “Don’t be. Honestly, I’m flattered. I didn’t know I could make someone so hot and bothered by my mere presence.”

Mercer’s eyes hooded slightly, and she leaned in, her breath ghosting along Lena’s jaw before feathering against her lips. “I can’t say that I’m not in the same boat.”

Mercer leaned in, and Lena’s breath hitched.
